About

The structure behind the network.

Objective, role, funding, and management — the framework that makes the network's work possible.

The network’s goal is to connect small and medium-sized enterprises and research institutions from Germany and Italy in a way that turns scientific findings into market-ready solutions in micro- and nanotechnology. At its center are four innovation fields — Fluidics, Analytics & Sensorics, Scopy and Tools & Equipment — which together enable a continuous path from research to application.

Role

The network sees itself as a platform and facilitator, not a research actor in its own right: it brings companies and research institutions together, initiates joint projects and creates the structural conditions for cross-border collaboration. The actual research and development work is carried out by the members themselves — the network coordinates, connects and supports.

Funding Framework

The network is funded under the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM) by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag. This funding provides the foundation to build network activities — from partner matching to initiating joint projects — independent of short-term commercial pressure.

Management

Network management coordinates day-to-day work: from organizing joint events to advising individual members to supporting funding applications for new projects.

Potential for Synergy

The network leverages extraordinary synergies by strategically combining the complementary core competencies of its German and Italian partners. These synergies arise at the technological, economic and strategic levels.
